Congratulations!
You’ve said yes, you’ve celebrated with family and friends and now you’ve reached the exciting—but sometimes slightly overwhelming—stage of actually planning your Sydney wedding.
Where do you start?
Venue? Dress? Photographer? Flowers? Guest list?
A beautiful wedding doesn’t happen because you made 200 decisions in the first month. It happens because you make the right decisions in the right order.
Before opening Pinterest, Instagram or venue websites, sit down together and ask:
Do you want:
Your answer should guide every decision that follows.
Your guest count will influence almost everything.
It affects:
You don’t need an absolutely final guest list immediately, but you do need a realistic estimate.
A wedding for 40 guests is a completely different planning exercise from a wedding for 180 guests.
Before falling in love with a venue, establish what you are realistically comfortable investing.
I recommend dividing your budget into categories rather than simply choosing one large number.
Consider:
And always leave some room for the unexpected.
Your venue is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make.
Sydney offers an extraordinary variety of wedding locations—from harbourfront restaurants and five-star hotels to heritage properties, gardens, private estates and iconic Sydney locations.
But don’t choose a venue based solely on how beautiful the room looks in photographs.
Ask:
Consider:
This is where an experienced planner can be incredibly valuable.
Once your venue is secured, start booking your priority suppliers.
For many couples, these include:
The suppliers who are most important to you should be booked early.
This is the fun part.
Rather than choosing individual details one at a time, I recommend developing a complete design direction.
Think about:
Colour
What colours will appear throughout the day?
Florals
Are you imagining abundant arrangements, refined florals or something more sculptural?
Lighting
Lighting can completely transform a wedding after dark.
Furniture
Tables, chairs and lounges create the foundation of your reception design.
Stationery
Your invitations should give your guests their first glimpse of the wedding you’re creating.
Table styling
This is where all the smaller details come together.
A beautiful wedding needs a beautifully considered timeline.
Your timeline should include far more than the ceremony and reception.
It should consider:
The best timelines aren’t rigid.
They’re carefully structured so there is enough flexibility for the day to breathe.
In the final months, the number of moving parts increases dramatically.
This is when your planner should be bringing everything together.
Supplier confirmations.
Final guest numbers.
Floor plans.
Timelines.
Run sheets.
Menus.
Seating plans.
Transport.
Styling.
Ceremony details.
Wedding party logistics.
And all the little details that nobody else should need to worry about on the day.
This sounds obvious, but it is one of the most important parts of my job.
Your wedding day shouldn’t feel like a project you’re managing.
You should be walking into your ceremony thinking about the person you’re about to marry.
You should be enjoying champagne with your friends.
You should be dancing.
You should be eating your dinner.
You should be present.
That’s why I believe great wedding planning is about more than logistics.
It creates the freedom for you to actually experience your wedding.
